Simtrac FAQs
Before contacting Simpro support with a question, please read our frequently asked questions below.
Once payment is made (either upfront or via a 36-month contract), our Internal IT team will contact our preferred third-party auto electrical installer and provide them with all necessary details. We will then ship the tracking units to you via Express shipping. The installer will contact you to arrange a convenient installation time. If you prefer to use your own installer, simply provide us with their details, and we shall coordinate accordingly. Installation times typically range from 1.5 to 2 hours per vehicle, depending on the vehicle type and installer availability.
Unfortunately, due to high demand in the auto-electrics industry related to the 4G migration, installation times can vary widely, ranging from one week to one month.
If the tracker is a 4G unit covered under warranty, one uninstall and reinstall are included at no extra cost. For trackers purchased outright, you will need to cover the costs to uninstall and reinstall the unit, whether you organise it yourself or through us. Under a 36-month contract, one uninstall and reinstall are also included, but any additional transfers would incur an extra cost.
Each new unit starts a new 36-month agreement. If you add units at different times, each unit's 36-month term begins upon dispatch.
Yes, you can assign an RFID tag to each driver to swipe when starting their vehicle. Simtrac will recognise the tag and assign the driver to the vehicle until it is turned off. The driver’s name will appear alongside the vehicle name on the main map screen. This is especially useful for drivers who frequently change vehicles. Ensure the GPS trackers are compatible with the RFID tag setup. Learn more in How to Manage Drivers.
Yes, you can. You can create a geofence to receive notifications when the technician passes the 50km point and again when they return. Use reports, such as the Site/Geofence Report, Mileage Report, and Activity Reports to calculate the allowance. Please note, that this must be set up as a Geofence, not a Site Radius.
Simtrac trackers can be installed in any vehicle, including personal ones. However, tracking cannot be restricted to specific times, such as outside work hours or the weekend. Location data is pinged periodically (when the vehicle is OFF every 30 minutes and when the vehicle is ON every 2 minutes).
We currently do not offer extended warranties for tracking devices.
Geofences cannot be set for specific dates or times, but alerts can be created for vehicle use outside of authorised hours.
Simtrac trackers (AK300s) require fixed installation by licensed auto electrical partners specialising in fleet management.
Existing tracking units from other providers are not compatible with Simtracdue to the specific setup required within our platform. This is why we use our own trackers.
In Australia, Simtrac uses the Telstra 4G mobile network. Click here to view the Telstra Coverage Map. So anywhere there is coverageSimtrac will work.
For all our international clients, we set up their Simtrac units with a Telstra (AU) sim card and then ship them out. So when they are installed and turned on they will connect to any international telco tower/network and function.
Simtrac has a panic button feature that, when correctly set up, will sound alarms and send notifications if pressed by a driver. This feature is available for an extra cost. Please note, that this feature does require any telco’s cellular signal to work.

Yes, there is a section under vehicle information that allows you to track environmental data such as CO2 emissions. You will need to research the specifications of each vehicle model (e.g. Toyota Hilux 2022) to input relevant data.
If the tracking units were purchased outright, your insurance company should cover the cost of the tracker if it is lost due to theft or a vehicle write-off. You can claim this through your insurance and then pay us for the replacement unit(s). We will also cancel the stolen tracker. If the stolen tracker is under a contract, you will be required to pay out the remaining contract.
Simtrac units are robust and designed for durability, though the quality of installation can affect performance.
